new install using old database on distant server

Hi

i have a rather stupid question, but i am unable to find the answer on the documentation or here.

I have an OCS server 2.0.3 on an old crappy server (Ubuntu 10.04), the database is on another server. It works well.

I want to install OCS server 2.1.2 on another machine but keep the MySQL server as is and keep the existing data.

My question is : can i install OCS server using the existing database during the install (after backup of course) or should i create a new database on the MySQL server and then after the install migrate the data from one database to the other?
