Negative search with search with various criteria

Whenever I search for a negative like "Don't belong to" no result are returned. When I use the belong to group I get the correct results.  In debug mode it states that
"You have an error in your SQL syntax..... right syntax to use near ')' at line 1"

Can you let me know which files are used for the search or if a fix as been implemented?

I am using the latest 2.4.1
in Administrative console by (440 points)
